This Large 15cm Bone Toki Manaia Necklace is a stunning piece, isn't it?

It's large at 15cm (6"), a size many Maori now want to wear, so they have a standout piece.

The pendant is beautifully bound, with a long 70cm (27 1/2") plaited cord with bone toggle closure.

The bone toki has an intricate surface carving of a manaia, enhanced with a paua shell eye.  Manaia are Maori spiritual guardians over sea, land and air, warding off evil spirits.  The toki also carries a spiritual meaning.  The toki or adze was a very important implement to pre-European Maori.  The toki necklace was usually worn by elders, and is a symbol of power, wisdom and authority.

So this toki manaia carries a lot of spiritual meaning.
