This Maori Greenstone Mere is made from New Zealand greenstone, found on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.  At approximately 28.5cm (11 1/4") long, the mere is slightly shorter than the normal length of an ancient mere used in battle (often 33 to 34cm long) but is still an impressive piece to hold in your hand.

The Greenstone Mere is finished off with a leather plaited strap.  Please always hold the mere at the short end, with your hand through the strap.  This is a valuable item that you don't want to drop.  Greenstone dropped at just the right angle on a hard floor can shatter.

Store it on its wooden stand and enjoy looking at the innate beauty of New Zealand Greenstone Jade (pounamu).
