This large Maori Poupou (wall panel) is hand carved from native New Zealand timber.
This beautifully carved Tiki Poupou wall panel is representative of the side wall panels found in Maori meeting houses around New Zealand. Poupou normally are wood carvings of ancestors, creating a sense of belonging for the members of that tribe.
The top male figure (tekoteko) in the poupou carries a patu or mere in his hand, coloured green to represent greenstone (pounamu).
There is a Maori Wheku (face) below it.
Both the tekoteko and the wheku have native paua shell eyes.
This Maori Poupou measures approximately 57cm x 14cm x 4cm (22 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 1 1/2").
A truly beautiful piece to grace your wall.
There's a hole on the back so it is ready to hang.
Proudly made in NZ.
