This Paua Abalone Manuka Smudge Kit is a New Zealand version of an item from an ancient ritual.

Essentially, smudging is a ritual to clear negative energy before a ceremony, but in this modern world it is often used to clear negative energy from a space, such as your home or workplace.  It is also used to lift mood, clearing negative spirits so positive spirits can come in.  It is a positive process, so whether or not science backs up the process, it is still a positive thing to do if it lifts the spirits or helps heal a person.

Abalone shell has traditionally been used to provide a connection with the sea, bringing calm and clean energy.  This abalone shell comes from New Zealand waters, where it is called paua, pronounced pa-wa.

Directions:
1. Using a match, light your manuka bundle or smudging stick.
2. Rest the stick in the abalone shell, using it to collect any ashes or embers as the sticks or bundles burn. (CAUTION: as the abalone shell has natural holes in it, make sure any hot embers don't fall through onto flammable materials.  To be safe, put a non-flammable dish or mat underneath the shell).
3. To bless a person or object, use a feather to waft the smoke around them. CAUTION: If holding the bundle or stick whilst walking around a room, make sure you do not let any embers land on flammable materials).
