Every year, NZ Post give us their recommended shipping dates, so your parcels and letters get to their destinations overseas in time for Christmas.
DON'T BELIEVE THEM!
NZ Post have an outdated concept of shipping times. They do not take into consideration that mail volumes increase markedly at Christmas time, and they don't take into consideration that postal services in other countries as well as our own, are downsizing, despite the rise of online shopping.
The most important dates to re-consider are the airmail ones, with airmail being the most popular way to ship due to its relatively low cost.
If you think that you are safe to ship your parcels to the USA, UK and Europe by the 1st December, you're dreaming! At Christmas time it takes a good 4 weeks to get parcels to these countries, and even longer to places like Spain or Portugal. And 6th of December for Australia? You're dreaming mate! Sure, some parcels, particularly to Sydney and Melbourne can get there pretty quickly. But Western Australia and the Northern Territories? Think again.
We're a retailer, we get feedback from customers, we know how long parcels take to get to destinations. Trust me, you should be getting your overseas parcels away THIS WEEK, from 20 to 25 November. As the Nike ad says, just do it!
